Cleaning and Oiling Column Formwork
Location: Road Bridge – Port Adelaide South Australia
After each column concrete pour, the column formwork gets stripped down to be cleaned with high pressure water blasting and grinding with a wire wheel to remove all the slurry.

Cleaning Column Formwork
After cleaning, a special oil is applied to the forms which ensures they will strip off easy next time, and also helps provide a nice smooth finish on the concrete.

What kind of Formwork oil do you use? Is it oil based of animal fat based?
Thanks

Generally whatever is supplied.
Sometimes it is a product called Form Release Agent, but if we run out of that, we’ll just use some diesel fuel.
For the column forms above, I think it was some type of Lanolin Oil. This provided the best concrete finish I have ever seen, but there was a problem later because the curing agent would not stick to the columns.
